To the Mayor and Deputy Mayor:
Would someone please let us, the community, know what are the other major cuts in the budget. I'm talking about ones of $35,000 and above. Since the library is up for $65,000 cut,I was wonder what other township budgest are being cut so drastically. If it goes through, it will mean that as of 2010 the library will be seriously damaged due to lack of funding. Therefore eventually just fazed out of existance. (03/28/09 9:34am) REPLY
While I will not speculate as to why you did not attend the budget meeting on Saturday morning, it would have been a more appropriate forum to voice your opinion in favor of the library, and would have shown you cared enough about it to actually appear in person and speak on its behalf. I don't mean to sound rude, but sometimes it takes more than just posting on this website to be heard by the right people, and opinions carry more weight when they come from a person sitting just a few feet away. Perhaps you truly are involved in the community and simply did not have time to attend, and if such is the case then sorry for the lecture. But considering your post seems to have been written while the meeting was actually in progress (according to the time-stamp), I'm not so sure about that... (03/29/09 1:10am) REPLY
Not sure about the OP but I was coaching baseball with about 100 other volunteer coaches this past Saturday. (03/29/09 2:41pm) REPLY
Sorry on two counts first for not signing my name as you have also seemed to have forgotten, and yes it was written during the time, but since my son had just had extensive knee surgery I felt my place was with him and not at the budget meeting. I also see my question was not answered.

Obviously with your son is where you should have been, and I again apologize for any rudeness on my part. In answer to your original question, I am not a township official nor spokesman, and so my numbers may be off. But I do believe that the library budget cut is now $30,000 less than originally planned. And I must say that I was very impressed by the give-and-take mentality shared by all the Township Committee members. Best of luck with your son! (03/30/09 8:14am) REPLY
Thank you....I was also very pleased to hear that they put back $30,000 of the original $65,000 they wanted to cut from the Library. It also told me they were paying attention at the meeting when I suggested not purchasing all three police vehicles this year and use that money. Too bad it wasn't spotted earlier and a lot of this worry could have been avoided. But I guess alls well that ends well, but they still have to vote on it. Carole Francioli (03/30/09 5:25pm) REPLY
With an author and 2 recent BOE members on our council, I know they will do the right thing. (03/31/09 8:49am) REPLY
Gee isn't that something the Past Mayor Francioli was also a published author.... (03/31/09 9:19am) REPLY
I didn't know that being a published author made you any better or any worse as a politican or a person. I believed we voted our committee in on who we thought would do the best job for everyones interest not just a few...after all O.J. Simpson is a published author and I don't see a lot of people asking him to run for office. (03/31/09 5:08pm) REPLY
I think a link between, 2 former educational board members and a local author hopefully seeing the importance of extended learning was being drawn.
If OJ was on the council, we'd have a turf fields with lights and the town workers would be driving white Broncos that were leased from Hertz.
