FRANCIOLI - 3-DECADES or 3-MONTHS - YOU DECIDE! (04/07/09 8:27pm)
If one follows the Hanover Eagle / Weekly Regional News, Letters to the Editor section, they would surely know its election time in Hanover.
Several weeks ago a letter from past committeeman, now planning board member, Bob Steiger, responding to past committeeman Sal Iannaccone's response to the Eagle, defending himself and his 37 year record, having been mentioned in a Hanover Eagle editorial.
This past week a letter appears from newly elected Hanover Committeeman George Coppola, and targets the past administration as well as potential candidate for Hanover committee, John Ferramosca, for the economic issues now before the township committee. Economic issues, warnings and the loss of Lucent, that I brought to the townships attention well before last springs primary election, and issues that candidate Coppola accused me of being an ‘alarmist’ about - Well here we are confronting those lost rateables and lack of others.
As many know, I retired from the Township Committee this past February with over 30 total years of service to our community, nearly 14 of those years as mayor. I am proud to have contributed to our many accomplishments and the strong, debt-free condition of Hanover – I live here too.
Committeeman Coppola's letter, after only 3 months in office, raises many baseless issues that must be addressed. On-going letters to the Hanover Eagle, provides a one sided medium that Committeeman Coppola, and others, seems to enjoy. I have a much better idea.
A fair and open public debate between Committeeman Coppola and myself. A debate on any and all issues before our township – economic and otherwise: Planning, past and present, zoning, COAH regulations, Highlands plans and their implications, development (lost and found), open space and land acquisition / environmental and fiscal implications, recreational facilities and delays, seniors housing, critical infrastructure issues, tax increases, tax appeals, budget – have I left anything out?.
A golden opportunity for our community to hear, first hand, from both of us.
Terms? Any evening before the June primary elections. A neutral moderator, say the current president of the Republican Club. A 120 minute session with equal time for both Committeeman Coppola and me to ask and answer questions of each other and make statements supported by facts that an informed public should know. Place, any public gathering space of your choice.
What could be fairer Committeeman Coppola – are we on?
I'm fairly certain that your challenge will go unanswered.
We remember the call he made to a township hard hit by lost revenue that you
referenced when Lucent's closing was first mentioned. Now we are in this pickle
as you warned and he claims to have inherited the problem. He is aligned with
the replacement mayor in a position that favors micro managing and plodding
slowly along as if everything will work out just fine. This is an anti-ratable
message to the builders and current land owners looking to sell land they have
paid taxes on for years.
Hanover was always in an economically protected bubble due to our good schools,
municipal services and low taxes. This bubble was not strong enough to protect
us when the national economy crumbled and now Lenny wants to remove the resource
officer from WPHS. His children do not go to WPHS, is the SRO at Madison High
School being removed?
How many projects has Lenny stalled with his micro-managing?
Where are we with the project on American Way?
What about Colloid, I remember that he would have preferred a non-tax
paying church buy the land?
He pushed to buy the San Marco property, will it also sit empty as a
testament to his love of passive recreation. I'd even accept the premise if we
saw one set of walking trails between Whippany and Cedar Knolls. He hordes land
and lets it sit.
I hope Football is now unhappy with their choice for town council. They had a
better supporter in Howard Olsen but he was painted as your voting buddy.
I suppose you could sit in the back row of the council chamber while gleefully
watching the economic down turn worsen. But you chose to set the record straight
and offer a discussion on the future of Hanover Township.

I am 100% sure that George will not answer your challenge Ron. Too bad though because this is an opportunity to show how little he knows about the town and how he got people to vote for him by bashing you and my father. But, like they say what goes around comes around.
I doubt very much that George will answer you. He is going to pretend that he knows nothing about it! Because he knows that if he goes up against you people will actually find out he doesn't know much compared to you! And the town people who voted for him will also find out. He won by spreading lies about you and my father. Like they say what goes around comes around.
Ron, if you have so much to say and so much to debate, why did you resign from your position on the Council? You held a public position in town and threw it away because of your ego.
And Trish? Your father lost the election. Move on.
You both are starting to sound like sore-loser whiners. Can't see how anything in your posts is helpful to the Town at all.
To the person who would not sign their name I say this. I am in NO way a sore loser. And yes my father did lose the election. Judy and George find it easier to lie and mislead people for their own hidden agenda. If I were Ron and was left with those people I would of resinged. You seem like a Judy and Lenny fan. Dumb! Why don't you ask either one of them why they wouldn't give up their paid benifits and their yearly stippen. How much would that have saved the towns tax payers? They don't have the towns best intentions. They have their agenda and like I said before what goes around comes around. Trisha L. Olsen (04/11/09 7:36pm) REPLY
Do you really think it helps your argument to call towns people who voted for Fariello, Iradi and Coppola dumb? That's a whole lotta folks. Many who probably read this message board but don't ever bother to post.
Don't take a page out of Florio's nasty play book. Look at the outcome of her Council bid after she publicly referred to Fariello as dumb. People don't like such haughtiness. We aren't so "dumb" that we can't see it for what it really is.......desperation.
