Kudos to Mr. Dunne, it is always an adventure when a Democrat with his credentials joins the fray. While I don't plan to abandon my Republican principles, the fact that the "two party" system is alive and well in Hanover is a credit to our country. After careful scrutiny of his "vitae", I am going out on a limb, and guessing "Red Sox"!!!
Dear WhippanyDA: I am not sure I catch your drift relative to your reference about the "Red Sox", (perhaps it is because you believe I am a decided underdog; but we'll see), yet, just to set the record straight I am an avid "Yankees" fan and season ticket holder.
The fact that you don't plan to abandon your "Republican principles" and yet claim the "two party system is alive and well" is a pure oxymoron.
What's gone so well for the Democrats in Hanover in recent years?
How often has the governing body switched between the two parties?
The fact that everything in this town is Republican is pretty much a stubborn tradition at this point. And just because a Democrat is brave enough to step up doesn't mean that so-called "two party system" is thriving. That's like having the Yankees play the WPHS baseball team and praising the league as competitive. Of course both sides are teams, but do they really have a fair chance of winning? Or is it pretty much decided before WPHS takes the plate?
The fact that you won't abandon your "Republican principles" is why Hanover and our country can't move forward. Both parties spew political rhetoric and treat the other's words like poisonous venom merely because it's, well, the principle of the matter. So that's really the only fundamental "Republican principle" I can think of, and that goes for the Dems as well. And it's really not worth hanging onto if you ask me.
my "tongue in cheek" reference to the Red Sox was a result of your Massachussets roots. As I said... I went out on a limb. In a more serious tone, while I am a Republican, I welcome the diversity that the two party system brings. Rather than move on by inertia, your entry here will cause my party to snap to attention and realize it's not a given.
Simpleman9, on the other hand, is making way too much out of my comment. I'm suprised he was so moved by it. There is nothing wrong with the two party system. The fact that Hanover is traditionally Republican speaks volumes about the populace. We like it like that but it doesn't mean we don't want the competition. Voters in Hanover are extremely sophisticated, and having some ability to compare candidates is a good thing.
