Yes Virginia There is a Santa Claus. For Hanover Township he comes in the form of the township committee.
The committee gives bonus to satisfactory performers The people who pay for our town employees either work for companies who are cutting staff, not granting salary increases and requiring health benefit contributions that far exceed those paid for by township employees or are retired and living on fixed incomes. The committee chose to ignore the current economic environment and reward a select few satisfactory performers. Are there any township employees who do not receive a satisfactory evaluation?
In the private sector bonuses are generally based on outstanding performance by the individual and/or the company as a whole. Committee woman Iradi is to be commended for voting no. Her upcoming election may have been a factor in her decision. Hopefully the residents of Hanover will remember the committee's irresponsible actions when the 2009 members run for reelection. The town does need the bad judgment inherent in the bonus situation to spill over into the many challenges the town will be facing in the next two years. Hopefully the committee's decision will prompt more responsible Hanover citizens to seek elective office.
