Hanover Township introduces new youth initiative: Open House Friday December 16th
We are proud to announce that the Hanover Township Recreation Department, in conjunction with the Substance Awareness Council, Hanover Township Committee, several BOE members from our K-8 and our regional High School, along with support from countless residents and many members of organized sports, is ready to kick off a new family-oriented program for our children called “Hanover Youth Night.”
This program will be held at our Recreation Center two Friday nights each month from 6:30 to 9:00. It will be available to all Hanover students from 1st grade up to the 8th grade. The Hanover Youth Night program is designed to offer children fun-focused, age-specific activities by grade:
·   1st and 2nd graders will meet on the first Friday of the month
·   3rd to 5th graders will also meet on the first Friday of the month
·   6th through 8th graders will meet on their own night the third Friday of the month
The purpose of the initiative is to give our students a positive option right here in town to see their friends, have a good time and hopefully even learn a few things by participating in age-related activities such as.
·   1st and 2nd graders - Jump Rope, Four Squares and Kick Ball and any other activity that is brought to our attention that may be fun.
·   3rd to 5th - Movie Night, Kickball, Wiffleball, Volleyball, Basketball and Frisbee Football.
·   6th to 8th - Basketball, Wiffleball, Volleyball, Kickball and Mini - Golf
There will be demonstrations and hands-on clinics in many areas for all these groups such as karate, music, art exhibits, and many more. We also look at it as another opportunity to bring in great role models to work with the kids and sometimes offer DARE presentations related to drugs and alcohol.
Our plan is to offer adult moderators on a 10 children 1 adult -ratio, mirroring our school policy. All our volunteers will have been fingerprinted with full background checks.
We will be seeking support from local businesses in the form of donations and special discounts to offer low cost refreshments options, such as pizza, chips, bottled water, etc....
Admission will be only $2 per child, as the Hanover Township Substance Awareness Council is a big sponsor and supporter of this initiative.
